With Spring quickly moving into Summer we wanted to take the opportunity to update everyone on our recent developments and share some exciting news for the future!
Oral histories
A total of 27 oral histories have now been recorded as part of the Sheffield Feminist Archive project. Recent interviewees have included Flis Callow and Caroline Poland who were recently involved in Women Against Pit Closures. The majority of the interviews (apart from the most recent) can be accessed at Sheffield Archives on Shoreham Street. You can find more information about accessing the collections deposited at Sheffield Archives through the SFA project on our Visiting the Archive page.
Recent Oral History training
The introductory training for interviewing for the SFA Oral History Project was updated last year and has been delivered twice to a total of 7 would-be interviewers. The training was well received and we have already heard from one of the attendees about her plans to interview a feminist about her stories and memories of being involved in gender equality activism.
Book deposits to Wortley Hall
Our collection of books is now complete and can be found in the Lounge at Wortley Hall, the Workers’ stately home near Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
Each book has been catalogued online on Library Thing and has a sticker with our logo. Wortley Hall is always worth a visit but sometimes access to the Library will be restricted because of events taking place in the Lounge.
Remembering Resistance collaboration
Looking forward to the Summer, we have an exciting collaboration coming up with the ‘Remembering Resistance’ project based at Lancaster University. We’re teaming up to try and capture the stories of local women and their involvement in the movements and protests which have shaped Sheffield’s political scene. Watch this space for more details.
AGM
The Sheffield Feminist Archive held its annual general meeting on Thursday 9th May at the Old Junior School. Following an annual financial review, we were treated to a retrospective look at at some of the challenges and achievements of the past year by the Chair of the group. We also held a lively discussion over the future aims of the SFA and the development of some exciting new projects.
